Terms of Service
Last updated: July 7, 2026
These terms govern your use of Identique. They are short on purpose — please read them before relying on any validation result.
What this service does
Identique checks whether a national ID number matches the publicly documented format for a country and, where the scheme defines one, whether its checksum is consistent. It is an informational tool: a "valid" result means the number is well-formed according to the rules known to the underlying library — nothing more.
Identique does not verify identity, query any government registry, check whether a number was issued, or detect fraud, and it does not handle passports or other travel documents.
No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. Validation results are not legal advice and are not identity verification. National ID formats change over time and the underlying library may lag behind reality, so a genuine number may be reported invalid and a never-issued number may be reported valid.
If a decision matters — employment, finance, anything legal — confirm the information through official channels instead of relying on this tool.
Acceptable use
Use the service only with ID numbers you are legally permitted to handle, and only in ways that comply with the data-protection and privacy laws that apply to you. Do not use the service to attempt to generate, guess, or enumerate real people's ID numbers, and do not attempt to disrupt, overload, or abuse the site.
Open source
Validation is powered by the idnumbers library, released under the MIT license. Its source code is publicly available, and the license text accompanies the library. Country data and validation behaviour on this site follow the library's implementation.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service — including decisions made on the basis of validation results.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and continued use of the service after an update means you accept the revised terms.
